Outbuilding - Old Britex Plant

Outbuilding - Old Britex Plant

Red Shed

Two of my images will be on display at the New Hampshire Society for Photographic Artists annual Exeter Exhibition at the Exeter town Hall Gallery, Exeter,NH. The opening is Sunday, January 5th from noon to 4 PM. The gallery is open from noon to 4 PM Saturdays and Sundays and the show runs through February 2nd.

The Outbuilding is on the site of the Old Britex plant in Centrelea, Nova Scotia. Build in the early 1960s it produced elastic textiles mostly for the garment industry. At its peak it employed 240 people. It closed in 2004 as a consequence of the collapse of the domestic Canadian garment industry and change in US tariff law.

The Red Shed is located in Seal Cove on Grand Manan, a large island just off the New Brunswick coast and not far from the U.S. border. Fishing and dulse harvesting are the major industries on the island. The buildings in Seal Cove which were formally used to smoke herring are now used to store gear for the lobster industry.
